Understanding the WPCA adjustment

Beginning September 1, Central Electric must implement a Wholesale Power Cost Adjustment (WPCA) of $9.00 per 1,000 kWh billed. This adjustment is necessary to keep pace with rising wholesale power costs that have outstripped what our current rates can cover.

Why Now?

The energy landscape is changing. Older, lowercost power plants are retiring faster than new sources can replace them. Meanwhile, renewable energy, while promising, can’t always meet demand without costly storage. These shifts have driven up the cost of electricity nationwide.

As a not-for-profit cooperative, we don’t pass these costs on to generate profit. The WPCA is a direct pass-through to help us recover the actual cost of power. It’s a flexible tool that allows us to adjust without permanently changing your base rate.

What to Expect

For a residential member using 1,400 kWh, the WPCA will add approximately $13.48 to your monthly bill. The amount will vary depending on your usage. This adjustment will be reviewed regularly and adjusted as needed to reflect actual power costs.
