Concern for Community in Action

Community is at the heart of Central Electric, and this fall, our employees came together to support The Breadbasket of Sanford, a local organization dedicated to serving hot meals to anyone in need. Together, we prepared and served a free meal for individuals experiencing homelessness or facing food insecurity.

In addition to the meal, our team assembled care bags filled with essential items to help those living in challenging conditions. Each bag included personal care items as well as oversized sweatshirts, hats, and gloves—items chosen to provide comfort and protection during the colder months.

The Breadbasket has been a cornerstone of the Sanford community since 1990, serving 70 to 100 meals daily, Monday through Friday. Its mission is simple yet powerful: to ensure that no one goes hungry.

“I think it’s important for businesses like Central Electric to give back. It means a lot to the community to see that support,” said Jeffrey Petty, manager of The Breadbasket.

For Central Electric, this project was about more than providing a meal—it was about living out our cooperative principle of Concern for Community. As James Taylor, Manager of Human Resources, Payroll & Communications, shared, “We’re blessed with so much, and this is our chance to give back. It’s rewarding to work together and to be the hands and feet for organizations that serve our neighbors every day.”

We encourage anyone looking to make a difference to consider volunteering at The Breadbasket. Whether it’s serving meals, cleaning up, or packing supplies, there’s always a way to help. Together, we can make a meaningful impact—one meal, one act of kindness at a time.
